How a kegerator connects

The gas side supplies pressure to the keg. The beer side carries beer from the keg to the faucet. This cutaway shows the main connections in a typical draft system.

Before your first pour

  1. Check compatibility. Confirm the keg fits and the coupler matches its valve.
  2. Chill the keg. Verify the beer temperature before adjusting the system.
  3. Follow your model’s instructions. Use its manual for assembly, cylinder mounting, connections, and leak checks.
  4. Match the pressure to the beer. Temperature, carbonation, and line resistance affect the correct setting.
  5. Check the pour and keep it clean. Follow the equipment maker’s cleaning instructions and ask for help if problems continue.

CO2 is stored under pressure. Follow the cylinder and regulator instructions, and get qualified help if you are unsure about a connection or leak.
